Mosaic Receives Top Honour from United Way Worldwide

United Way of Saskatoon and Area is proud to announce that a long-time United Way supporter – The Mosaic Company – has received a 2013 United Way Worldwide Spirit of America® Summit award for philanthropy and community impact. The Spirit of America and Summit Awards program is United Way’s highest national honor for a corporation—recognizing outstanding United Way Global Corporate Leaders.

To achieve its mission—to help the world grow the food it needs—Mosaic provides farmers worldwide with the crop nutrients needed to produce more food using science-based agronomy. The Mosaic Company received Summit Award recognition for its community investment foundation, The Mosaic Company Foundation, and its employees’ United Way Worldwide contributions.

“The Mosaic Company is a leader in the agricultural industry and its communities,” said Brian Gallagher, president and CEO, United Way Worldwide. “We’re proud to partner with Mosaic and its employees to improve lives and create a brighter future for all of us.”

Globally, The Mosaic Company, its employees and The Mosaic Company Foundation contributed $25.4 million in community investments in 2012—including in-kind gifts totaling $3.7 million and $4 million raised through the company’s annual United Way campaign. Mosaic employees contributed expertise and volunteer time to execute campaigns across its North American operations.

At a local level, Mosaic became involved with United Way and Area in 1992. In that time, the company has contributed more than $1 million to Saskatoon and area communities through their involvement with United Way. In the past year alone, the company and their union have supported the Community Campaign, the Day of Caring event, the United Way Loaned Representative Program, the work of The Plan to End Homelessness, and have provided volunteer leadership at a Board level.

“Through their work at Mosaic and their personal generosity, our 8,000 employees help make a difference in the health and livelihoods of neighbors around the world,” said Jim Prokopanko, president and CEO, The Mosaic Company. “In accepting this Summit Award, we’re inspired to continue building a culture where employees can help families and individuals who need nourishment and support through programs funded by United Way.”

On behalf of Saskatoon and area, United Way of Saskatoon and Area would like to congratulate and thank The Mosaic Company for their dedication to community. Your support has changed lives.
