From Poverty to Possibility

Our economy is thriving, and our community is growing. For many in our community, the advancement is positive; for others it creates greater barriers to a good quality of life. United Way strives to provide opportunities for everyone to contribute successfully to our community’s success, and to share in the prosperity.

Our Goals

  • Meet basic human needs such as shelter, food and employment
  • Move people out of poverty and into sustainable, healthy situations

Our Organization in Action

United Way of Saskatoon and Area believes that every individual and family deserves to have their basic needs met. We do not accept that poverty and homelessness are inevitable for anyone in our community.

Did You Know?

A recent homeless count in Saskatoon indicated that there are nearly 380 homeless people in our city – many of whom are children. These numbers are 30% higher than in 2008.

History has proven that homelessness is accelerated by thriving economies. Saskatoon has an opportunity to tackle this issue before it becomes a disaster. United Way, with community partners, is leading the way to a solution with the Plan to End Homelessness in Saskatoon. This plan will shift the focus from managing homelessness to ending it.

Additionally, United Way is investing in programs and services that address root causes of poverty, and building the capacity and assets required to move individuals and families from poverty into sustainable, healthy situations.
